Crafty Christmas Idea #2

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Good Morning!

Ok, I finally have a great Silhouette creation to share with you guys and it would make an awesome Christmas gift, so it is also my second Crafty Christmas idea! As you may know, Mason is as in love with bass guitar as I am with sewing and crafting. We saw the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World a few weeks ago, and Mason liked the bass headstock logo on one of Scott Pilgrim's shirts. We couldn't find a good image online of the shirt in the movie, this is about as good as it gets:

So I found a photo of a Fender Precision Bass (his dream guitar) headstock online, imported it into my Silhouette software and started tracing. It was pretty tedious, but not that bad. I got the image put together pretty easily, and yesterday I decided to surprise Mason with a shirt. He showed up right when I was in the middle of making it, but that's ok. I used the smooth light blue heat transfer material that came with my Silhouette machine and ironed it on a plain black t-shirt. It turned out great and he loves it! :)

If it wasn't an experiment, I totally would have saved this for his Christmas gift!

****NOTE: I have this fender precision bass headstock decal image and a guitar version (it's a Fender Stratocaster headstock decal, the main difference is it has 6 smaller heads instead of 4 large ones) that I can send either as a Silhouette Studio file (just toss it on your software and it will cut it out) or just as an image file. If you want me to send you a copy, just fire me an email!!!****

UPDATE

Since I've gotten a number of emails requesting the image, I've decided to just add it and the six string version to this post. This way, you can use it as you please. If you want the Silhouette Studio file, definitely email me and I'll pass it on. Also, you're welcome to use the images in whatever way you can think of, just remember to give credit where it's due (a link back would be great if you post pictures online) and I'd love to see the creation. You can add it to my flickr group, leave a comment with a link or send me an email. Enjoy!

This is so cool! My daughter had picked up the guitar in the last year and I am putting everything guitar in her stocking. I was planning on making her a shirt. Love your idea, if mine doesn't work I may have to get yours. Don't you love your silhouette??? I just had to order a new blade, mine isn't cutting anymore, and I ordered lt.blue adhesive as well!

Thanks, everyone!

Laura, I do love my Silhouette. I'm scrapbooking-challenged, so it kind of seemed like a crazy purchase, but I've been discovering all the things I can do with it. It's very fun. I'm curious how long the blade will last because paper really makes scissors go dull quickly, so we'll see how it goes with the blade. I also drew up a guitar version of the image (with 6 heads instead of just 4) so if you happen to want the file, just let me know!

Loving this shirt! It's my brothers birthday today and he is a guitar player - this is perfect for him. Think I'm going to have put one together quickly before I see him tonight!

I don't have a silhouette (for now!) or heat-transfer stuff, but I'm planning to freezer paper stencil this on a shirt for my kid. From past experience, I know it won't be as sharp as the results you're getting with heat transfer, but it should be pretty good! Thanks for the images.

You're welcome! And Stephanie, I'm sure the freezer paper version will work out great. Freezer paper stencilling does have a different look from transfer paper, but I'd never say one is better than the other. I love the "vintage" sort of look you can get with freezer paper. Good luck!
