Baby Shower Series: Invitations

WELCOME to the first post in my Baby Shower Series!

As you may know, I hosted a baby shower yesterday for my sister and nephew. I had a great time planning it, and an even better time when it all came together! The shower was onesie (snappy, diaper shirt) themed, which I cannot take credit for. I found the idea on Cathie Filian's blog (click here for the post), but she also mentions it, in less detail, in her book 101 Snappy Fashions.

So, now that I have given credit where it needs to be given, let's get into it. The first thing to do for a baby shower is to decide the date, time, and location. Once you've got that decided, you can start building your invitations. I used the template on Cathie Filian's blog for the outline of the invitations. I was planning on printing my invitations on pieces of 8x8 inch card stock so I printed the template on a piece of plain paper, but told my printer it was an 8x8 inch sheet so it would be the right size. I cut it out and centred it on a sheet of my card stock and then measured what my margins would need to be.

On my word processor, I opened up an 8x8 inch (20.32x20.32 cm) document and set the margins as follows:

Left & Right: 2.17 inches (5.5 cm)
Top: 1.28 inches (3.25 cm)
Bottom: 0.79 inches (2 cm).

Then I filled in my text. This was the wording I used:

OH BABY,
IT'S A SHOWER!
Please join us for an afternoon of fun &
creativity in honor of the handsome [baby's name]
and his beautiful mom, [mom's name]This
is an afternoon for the ladies, but little boys
and girls are welcome too!

Next, I had some fun with fonts and dressed up my text.

Oh baby,
it’s a shower!

and his beautiful mom, [Mom’s Name]. This is an

After printing it off, I taped the template on top of my font. [I also thought of printing the template on the back of the invite, but I didn't want to risk the things that could go wrong!] So once you cut it out it will look like this [I blurred addresses and phone numbers, that's why some lines look funny]:

You can decorate and embellish as you please. There are fun ideas for embellishments here on Cathie Filian's blog. I decided to keep it simple. I used some textured card stock, and some regular stuff, and I drew on the opposite side to make them look more like onesies!

Remember to send your invites out at least 2 weeks before the shower so that people can keep the date free. Don't send invites out too early, though, or some people may forget about it!

That's it for this post. I'll have another coming up tomorrow!

What a cute invitation! It's simple and you added personal touches into it. I'm also preparing for a friend's baby shower. Great thing that she got to avail the instant cash advance from her office that will be used for her baby shower party and in her labor which is due three months from now.
