Food Friday

This week I got bought a couple new cookie cutters and made up some halloween sugar cookies. We decorated them as a family and it was really fun! The only issue we had was trying to get Gavin to decorate cookies without eating them. :)

If you're going to be making any cut out cookies for any reason, I would highly recommend this recipe! It's the same as a sugar cookie recipe I've used before, but I swapped out regular, granulated sugar for icing sugar. Don't think it would make a big difference? Try them out, they are absolutely fantastic! The texture is amazing. This recipe is fairly small, it made about 18 cookies.

What you need:

1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup icing (powdered) sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour

How to make it:

Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat for a minute or two. Then mix in the flour. Wrap it up in plastic and refrigerate until nice and firm. On a well floured surface, roll out and cut with cookie cutters. Bake cookies on a greased cookie sheet for about 8 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit or until the bottoms turn golden brown (you'll see it around the edges). Cool completely before icing!

We used a combination of homemade icing and store bought icings to decorate with. Homemade is definitely cheaper, but the convenience of store bought icing is kind of worth it.

Enjoy!
