Reusable List Tutorial

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

I love lists. There is something so satisfying about checking something off of a list for me. Weird? Ok, maybe. But the trouble with lists is that they are often disposable. I write them on paper, check things off and toss them. So I came up with this idea that is easy, cheap and reusable. It's not a forever thing - I think that dry erase markers will eventually stain the plastic, but at least it lasts longer than the paper alone.

What you need:

Clear Contact Paper
List
{I used a housework list that I made on picnik a while ago, but I think this list would be even better for this project too since it is weekly, not monthly.}
Scissors
Dry Erase Marker

Here's how to make it:

Lay your list on the back of the contact paper to measure the size of contact paper you will need. You will need a piece twice the size of your list, plus a little extra on all sides.

Cut the contact paper.

Peel the backing off the contact paper halfway (less chances of it getting stuck to itself or other things this way).

Lay your list, face down, on the contact paper. Leave at least 1/4 inch extra contact paper on all sides of the list. Make sure there are no bubbles.

Fold the extra contact paper at the bottom of your list up so it's stuck to the back of the list.

Peel the rest of the backing off the contact paper.

Fold the contact paper so the list is completely wrapped. Make sure there are no bubbles, then press it all together firmly. I ran my finger nail along the edges of the paper to be sure it was stuck.

Trim the excess contact paper from both sides. I left a little extra around the edges (like a laminated paper would have).

Now write on it with your dry erase marker.

And erase!

Now did you REALLY vacuum and dust? ;)

jk jk! It's cute! I need something like this. It's a miracle when I clean.

Thanks, haha. And yes, Sarah, I did vacuum and dust! But I like how having this list around makes me more accountable.
