When I was in Regina for our Christmas break, my Dad gave me a box full of old sewing supplies that had belonged to my Grandma. She moved out of her home that she had lived in for 50+ years just before I finished high school, and she moved into a senior's apartment complex. She had a tendency to keep a lot of stuff, and she had the space to do it up until the move. When she moved there was tons of stuff to clear out. Most of it has long since been added to our own stashes or found a new home elsewhere, but things sometimes still turn up. When she moved initially, it was like hitting the vintage jackpot. She had so much old stuff (and I wish I had photos of her house because it was straight out of the 60s/70s up until the time she moved in the 2000s). Now that is has been a few years, coming upon old things from that house is really a treat for me. I took some photos of some of the things I found in her old sewing stash. I just love the old wooden spools and vintage packaging, not to mention the prices marked on them (like 10 or 25 cents!) Enjoy...

Such a cute post! I inherited sewing stuff from my Grandma too (including a vintage sewing machine built into the sewing table I use now). I like to wonder what my Grandma made using her hot pink thread... :)

The pile of buttons had a tag from Kresge's in it. That brought back memories. I used to love going to that store. It was gone before you were even born I think.
Thanks for the awesome comments! Getting Grandma's old stuff has always been so neat, I love hearing that others have the same kind of experience.
And Mom, I have no idea what Kresge's is, but I thought it was funny that I pulled out a bunch of buttons and there was this random price tag for twenty-five cents! You can't get anything for twenty-five cents anymore. :)
I also inherited my grandmothers and great aunts sewing kits with all the goodies inside. My mom recently passed away and I now have her sewing kit as well. I love incorporating their buttons or trim into my projects...it makes them that much more special.
I laughed when I saw the Kresge's tag...I live in Toronto and we had a Kresge's in the mall near my house. Many an hour was spent in their toy aisle and at the lunch counter.
