Easy Pillow Case Tutorial

Good Morning!

Look at me go: two tutorials in one week! This one is EASY. I had the pillow all put together and the tutorial finished by 10 a.m. the other morning. This is for a basic, standard size pillow case that has a little pocket inside so the pillow stays put. When we bought our duvet cover at IKEA a year or so ago, it came with this type of pillow cases and I absolutely love them. The pillows are never wiggling their way out and I like the look better because you don't have a bunch of random excess fabric at one end. So let's get started.

You'll need one rectangle of fabric that measures 65 x 21 inches.

Hem both of the short ends. [fold them over 1/2 inch, press, then folding over another 1/2 inch and press again.]

Now lay the fabric on a table or wherever you are working with the right side facing up. Fold one hem up towards the other 28 inches. It should look like this now:

Take the other hem, the one on the right (see the bottom arrow on the picture above), and fold it over the first one. The first hem should be tucked nicely inside the second fold, but it shouldn't be folded back. It should look like this:

If you like to use pins, pin the long sides together, including the third layer on the one side. Sew through all layers on the two long sides. And that's it! Trim up your seams and corners and turn the pillow right side out. Press the whole thing to finish it up. Now this is what the open end of your pillow case will look like:
