Food Friday

Today is my last day of classes for the semester. I really don't know where this semester - or rather, this whole year - went! I don't mind though because it means than in a week I'll be all finished up and get to head home for a long visit. I can't wait. And for tonight, here's a recipe to make your own pizza dough from scratch. I like to add some dried herbs into the dough, like garlic, or basil, but here's the bare bones recipe... feel free to have some fun with it!

Pizza Dough

What you need:

1 pkg (or 2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1 tsp honey
1 cup warm water
1 Tbsp kosher salt
2 Tbsp oil
3 cups flour

How to make it:

In a small bowl, combine water, honey and yeast. Let it stand for about 10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients, adding the water and yeast last. Combine until the dough forms one big lump. Knead for a few minutes until it's nice and elastic. Oil a large bowl, place the dough inside and rotate it until it's coated. Cover with a towel and leave in a warm place to rise for about an hour. After the hour is up, preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Turn pizza dough out onto a flour surface. You can roll the dough into rounds or press into the bottom of a greased pizza pan. Top with sauce and whatever else you would like (we did ham and pineapple!). Bake for about 20 minutes, or until dough in golden brown and cheese is melted.
