Sensory Heaven

Monday, November 7, 2011

A while back when I did my first sensory bucket for Gavin, I was totally astonished... A large plastic bin and a bunch of dry beans became the new favourite toy?! Since then I've contemplated new activities along those lines. There are a million ideas in the blog world for sensory fun, but I didn't get around to putting something new together. Well, until now.

I found the idea on Play At Home Mom and I couldn't not try it. Those water beds look too cool! The next time I was at Michaels I grabbed some. I chose the little bag that you need to soak in water on your own because they were way cheaper, and it turns out you get way more for your money! You just need to prepare ahead of time and soak them for a few hours.

Anyways, these things are made from a water absorbing polymer, but the bottom line is that they are non-toxic. The only issue is, of course, choking. But I hope that we all know that sensory play is so much more rewarding when you're playing too (and so choking shouldn't be a big risk).

And just because you're an adult doesn't mean you can resist putting your hands in these things, they're pretty awesome! :)

I have been wanting to do this for my autistic 5 year old, but I was afraid he might pop one into his mouth. Do you know if these are non-toxic?

They're non-toxic! I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable using them if they were. I'm sure your 5 year old would love these. :)
