DIY Colouring Book

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

We visited Regina last weekend which meant the usual 6-8 hour drive (depending on stops). I always try to have something (at least partially) new for Gavin in the car so that he has the best chance of staying entertained. While drawing on blank pages is fun, colouring books are often more entertaining for kids. So instead of going out and buying a fat colouring book with a bunch of pictures of spiderman or thomas the train on flimsy newsprint, I made my own! I don't think a full tutorial is necessary, but I'll give you a quick run down of what I did.

I have a ton of plain white card stock in my paper stash and I find that it works better for Gavin to colour on.

I searched the web for printable colouring sheets of dragons, dinosaurs, sesame street characters, spiderman, and so on. I printed them off, four per sheet (two on each side).

For the cover I used my word processor to write "Gavin loves to colour!" and printed it off in the same fashion. Then I folded all the sheets in half, stacked them, and put a couple staples in (my stapler couldn't handle the thickness so I poked holes with a needle and put the staples in manually).

Now I have a more personalized, varied, sturdy, appropriately sized colouring book for FREE!
