Easy & Practical DIY Recipe Books

Friday, November 19, 2010

Good Morning!

I'm mixing up Food Friday again this week. There is actually a recipe here, but that isn't the point of the post...

I came up with this idea a long time ago as a way to make my own recipe books. My mom always had a cute set made for you to write your own recipes on recipe cards and then plug them into the little pages. I could never find a similar set, but wanted to be able to collect my recipes in a book. Boxes are cute, but then you generally have the issue of food getting on your recipe cards and making them gross. Finally it came to me: duh! a little photo album! You can buy these little photo albums at the dollar store or walmart for a dollar or two. They usually hold a couple dozen 4x6 inch photos... or your recipes! These are so great because they have little plastic sleeves, so if you are a messy cook you can just wipe the food off.

Here's what you need:

1 cheap photo album for 4x6 photos
4x6 inch ruled sticky notes
A pen

Here's how to do it:

1. Write your recipes out on the post-it notes.
2. Slip them into the book in whatever order you like.
3. Make one for the cover with a little title or description.
4. Pull out the current cover photo, stick your cover on top of it, and put it back in the cover.
5. Enjoy! Drip milk on it, make a mess with flour, whatever, just wipe it off!

{ This is a delicious recipe!}

Optional: If you want to get a little fancier, you can make a more "stylish" cover (I used my silhouette) and use your computer to make recipe cards. You can just type them up with fun fonts (see below) or find fun printables online [like here at skip to my lou].

Oh, what a great idea! I usually get drips and little stains on my cookbooks, and this is a fantastic way to prevent that from EVER.HAPPENING.AGAIN!

Thanks, Sarah! I am totally a messy cook, so this is perfect for my kitchen. I'm sure I can't be the only one! :)
